Victory Day of Bangladesh
Liberty is the birth right of a man. But it does not come out extemporaneously; a lot of struggle, hurdles and obstacles need to be overcome to touch its perfection- the ultimate victory what we definitely desire.
We, the people of Bangladesh had to endure inhuman pangs and sufferings of a painful journey of a bondage life- it was about 190 years of slavery under the shackles of the British colonial ruling – and it was also about 24 years under the barbaric domination of the Pakistani rulers.
But every starting has its own ending. When barbarism, brutalism and egotism are on the height peak, revolution and the urge of liberty will be the inevitable part of human survival. Ultimately, after a nine months long bloody struggle and the supreme sacrifice of the all patriotic people of our country Bangladesh gained victory on 16th December, 1971 and since then 16th December has become our national day.
Bondage life and slavery cannot be the philosophy of a human life. If we observe the true picture of nature, a bird can even be found flying spontaneously out of joy and its urging of liberty is obvious when we caged a bird and its helpless gloomy face narrates us untold sufferings of nightmare thinking of a bondage life. In 1971 Bangladesh became independent. It was the day of transformation; it turned caged bird into a free one and then, our life changed for the rest of our life.
The Language Movement of Bangladesh took place in 1952 which motto was to establish our identity as a free nation and also to boosting up our spirit of nationalism. It was 1947 when the British left India dividing into two countries: India and Pakistan. Bangladesh was then the East Pakistan, a part of Pakistan which was put together by combining two geographically, culturally, and linguistically separate groups of people.
Student movements of the 60's gained momentum in the mass movement of non-cooperation in 1969. Although it brought about the fall of a mighty military ruler like Ayub Khan, the ultimate goal of self-governing nation was not achieved then. So, the general election held in 1970. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a landslide victory in that election. But, they denied recognizing his electoral triumph.
Now, the climax of the liberation war has got its maturity and then, the leader of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman roared up like a lion to make the nation to be united in the crucial time of the nation survival.
He urged passionately the entire freedom loving people of Bangladesh to come forward and to harmonizing with his philosophy that is do or die but can never be run away showing their back like the coward. His inspiring speech touched the people’s mind to stimulate their sleeping eyes and to get ready to fight against the Pakistani rulers for the sake of their own identity as an independent nation.
In this way the hero of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman arouse the spirit of patriotism among the crowed people by delivering his inspiring speech-
The struggle this time is the struggle for our independence.”
After then, he had to keep in Pakistani prison for the time being. Then, the Pakistani occupation forces fell upon the sleeping Bengalese on the night of 25 March, 1971 and started committing genocide barbarously. So, the whole nation got plunged into a darkness of serious uncertainty and a fear horror griped their troubled mind.
Eventually, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence of Bangladesh on 26 March, 1971 on EPR. At the end of the nine months long bloody struggle Bangladesh became independent on 16th December, 1971 and the celebration of Victory Day took place since 1972 and then every year the people of Bangladesh observe the 16th December as a victory day.
