A
greedy farmer
Once there lived a
poor farmer. He had a wonderful goose. It used to lay a golden egg every day.
He sold the egg in the market. He was very greedy. He thought that there were
many eggs in the belly of the goose. He wanted to have all the eggs at a time
to become rich overnight. One day, he hit upon a plan that he would cut the
belly of the goose and get all the eggs of gold. He told his wife about his
plan. His wife, who was wise but not greedy, said to her husband, “Don’t be
greedy. Be happy with what we have.” But the farmer did not listen to her. He
cut the belly of the goose with a sharp knife. But alas! He found no egg in it.
Thus, the greedy farmer lost his valuable goose forever. Moral of the story: “Grasp all, lose all.”
